French Polynesia is a real oasis of life located thousands of kilometers from the nearest continent, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The isolation of the archipelagos has long contributed to the preservation of marine resources and to maintaining a still abundant fauna.

Contrary to popular belief the open sea allows many meetings with a variety of fauna, cetaceans, fish and sharks, turtles, birds inhabit this environment also called the big blue .

While some species are found near the coast, others are mainly found on the high seas. Here is an overview of the animals that we come across, some frequently, others more rarely and still others only at certain times of the year due to their migration.
